Julie Lin, violin
Violinist Julie Lin has performed on some of the most distinguished international stages, including Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall. She has also been featured as a soloist with orchestras, including the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, PRISMA Festival Orchestra, and Surrey Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Lin is the recipient of many prestigious accolades, including first prize at the American Protégé International Competition and Canadian Music Competition. She has been presented scholarships and solo recitals by several annual concert series, including the Friday Night Concert series in Taiwan.
As an avid lover of chamber music, Ms. Lin constantly searches for opportunities to collaborate with fellow musicians. This passion has led her to accomplishments such as first prize at the National Music Festival of Canada. Ms. Lin has performed alongside internationally renowned artists such as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Andres Cardenes, and Paul Silverthrone. Most recently, she had the opportunity to perform alongside members of the Tokyo, St. Lawrence, and Calidore String Quartets, as well as her colleagues at The Colburn School, in a grand performance of Beethoven’s Große Fuge. As an orchestral musician, she has played in venues throughout North America and Europe, under the batons of esteemed conductors including Stéphane Denève, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Michael Tilson Thomas.
Ms. Lin wholeheartedly believes that the best thing about playing music is to be able to share it with the larger community. Since the age of 7, she has enjoyed her time in conversation and music with White Rock’s elderly, hospital, and church communities. While in Los Angeles for her studies, Ms. Lin cherishes her time spent with the Skidrow community and the students of local elementary schools. She frequently organizes concerts to fundraise for causes and organizations that are dear to her, including Agape Love Deaf International in China.
Ms. Lin is a Bachelor of Music candidate at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where she studies with Martin Beaver. She performs on a Carl Becker violin, on generous loan from The Colburn Collection.
