The First Prize winner of the under 17 category of the 2018 Montreal Symphony Orchestra Manulife Competition, Henry From has been named by the CBC as among CBC’s 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30 for 2019.

Henry has performed piano concerti with several orchestras including Mozart’s 12th Concerto in Minneapolis, Beethoven’s 3rd concerto and Ravel’s G Major Concerto in Vancouver.

Henry is an active chamber musician. The piano trio he plays with in Vancouver, Trio d’Espace, has been a prize winner at the annual Friends of Chamber Music Competition for the last three years. He is also a member of the international chamber ensemble Trio Savyon which has performed in Boston, Warsaw, Calgary, and several cities in Israel. In addition, Henry plays violin with the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra.

Henry has studied composition with Edward Top for 4 years, and has had his compositions played by numerous ensembles around the Vancouver area and beyond. Most recently his Orchestral piece “Isle of Pic” was premiered by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in May 2019, and his choral piece “Erosion” won 2nd prize in an international composers competition with entrants from as far away as New Zealand. In the summer of 2018 Henry's Piano Trio, Op. 38 was premiered at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland. Henry has also been lucky enough to have had works premiered by the Soprano Kathleen Allan, the Turning Point Ensemble and the Standing Wave ensemble.

Henry first began piano lessons with Donna Lee Leung at the Vancouver Academy of Music 10 years ago when he was 5 years old and he continues to study there now with Amanda Chan.

Henry has just completed summer music programs, on scholarship, at the Orford Musique Academy in Quebec, as well as the Morningside Music Bridge program, held at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He had the opportunity to study with numerous teachers, including André Laplante, Meng Chieh-Liu, Haesun Paik and Katherine Chi.
