Lyndon Ladeur, Tenor

Lyndon Ladeur is a queer, Punjabi-Canadian tenor from Squamish, British Columbia. He grew up an athlete, playing hockey at a high level for over ten years. During this time, Lyndon was fascinated by the idea of “competition”. Most athletes desired to be the best, whereas Lyndon strived for his best, encouraging those around him to do the same. He firmly believes that the music world has space for everyone, as long as you’re willing to search.

Lyndon was named the winner of both the Senior Classical Voice and Vocal Variety competitions at the 2018BC Performing Arts Provincial Festival, representing the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival. He finished second runner-up in the inaugural Vancouver Westcoast Music Society’s Art Song Competition in 2018 and first runner-up in their 2022 Vocal Scholarship Competition. Lyndon was also a finalist in the Vancouver Academy of Music’s Kay Meek Competition before being announced a winner of the 2018 BC Provincial Concerto Competition.

Lyndon has appeared as Marco Palmieri in The Gondoliers, Fadinard in Il cappello di paglia di Firenze,Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, Ferrando in Cosí fan tutte, and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni. Additional performances include being the tenor soloist in Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Bach’s Cantata No. 140,Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, and Gounod’s Messe solennelle en l’honneur de Sainte-Cécile.

He made his international debut as Marco in Fraser Valley Stage’s production of The Gondoliers as part of the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, UK. For his portrayal, he won the Best Male Vocalist award and was nominated for Best Male Actor. He was a recipient of a 2018 VAM Emerging Artist Grant, contributing to this experience.

In 2022, Lyndon was awarded funding from the Toni and Hildegard Cavelti Foundation Fund thanks to the Vancouver Opera Foundation. He was also provided a grant from the Vancouver Opera Chorus Endowment. In 2023, he received the University of Toronto’s prestigious Ivan Alexander Chorney Opera Scholarship.

In the 2019/20 season, Lyndon performed with the Vancouver Opera Chorus for the first time in La traviata and has since participated in Cavalleria rusticana and HMS Pinafore. In 2022, Lyndon joined the Canadian Opera Company Chorus as a member of the offstage Ghost Chorus in Wagner's Der fliegende Holländer.

Lyndon recently graduated from the University of Toronto’s Masters of Music in Operatic Performance program, studying with Wendy Nielsen and Alain Coulombe.

He is excited to make his return to BC, joining Vancouver Opera’s Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program, making his mainstage debut as Dr. Blint in Die Fledermaus.

Lyndon has participated in many of Canada’s finest summer young artist programs. In 2024, Lyndon participated in the rearrangement workshop of The Handmaid’s Tale as part of The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. In 2023, he participated in COSA Canada, Orford Summer Music Academy, and Highlands Opera Studio. In 2022, Lyndon went to the Saluzzo Opera Academy in Italy. These opportunities led to him working with the likes of operatic icons, including: Richard Margison, Adrianne Pieczonka, Nathalie Doucet, Liz Upchurch, etc.

Besides creating his own music, Lyndon hopes to help bring opera to more rural areas. Coming from a small town, he hopes to inform more youth of the different styles attributed to classical music, and encourage them to be adventurous and spread the love of music everywhere.
